Join us for an unforgettable day of music-making as we rehearse and perform Joseph Haydn’s magnificent “Nelson” Mass under the inspiring direction of renowned conductor Phil Wilcox.
Phil is a professional opera singer (Royal Shakespeare Company, English Touring Opera, BBC Singers, Grange Park Opera) and choir leader with lots of positive energy www.philwilcox.com
Experience the exhilarating power of Haydn’s “Nelson” Mass, a vibrant and triumphant choral work composed in 1798. Officially titled Missa in Angustiis (Mass for Troubled Times), the piece earned its popular nickname after Admiral Nelson’s victory at the Battle of the Nile, which coincided with its early performances. The music is grand, dramatic, and full of energy, perfectly capturing the spirit of celebration and hope.
Although familiarity with the piece and/or being comfortable reading music would help you make the best of the experience, the day will be positive and we welcome a wide range of abilities.
If you would like to be more familiar with the work in advance, you are welcome to join us for some of our rehearsals on Monday evenings 7.30pm at Gospel Oak Methodist Church. The first one you attend will be free and any more can be paid pro-rata at £7. If you would like to join us at rehearsals or for more information, email karen@fleetsingers.org.uk
